ABOUT
St. James Syriac Orthodox Church is the first Jacobite Syrian Orthodox parish in Thunder Bay, Ontario, officially established on June 23, 2024. The parish was founded under the spiritual leadership of H.E. Mor Titus Yeldho, Archbishop of the Malankara Archdiocese of North America, and is named in honor of St. James (James the Just - യാക്കോബ്).
As a part of the Syriac Orthodox Church, St. James follows the apostolic faith, sacred traditions, and liturgical practices passed down through generations under the Holy Apostolic See of Antioch & All the East. The church serves as a center for worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth, uniting faithful believers in prayer and community life.
The Holy Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) is celebrated in Malayalam and Syriac, preserving both the Syriac Orthodox liturgical heritage and the cultural traditions of the faithful from Kerala, India. The parish is committed to upholding the ancient theological teachings, fostering spiritual development, and strengthening the faith of its members.
St. James Syriac Orthodox Church continues to be a place where Orthodox Christian values, faith, and traditions are nurtured for present and future generations.
SPIRITUAL BODIES

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School takes care of the spiritual development of our children by bringing them up in the knowledge and fellowship of Jesus Christ and His Church. Students are taught the Holy Bible — from the story of Creation to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The syllabus also includes lessons on the Holy Qurbano, devotional songs, and the history of the Syriac Orthodox faith from its origins to present-day events.
It helps children grow strong in faith, biblical knowledge, church history, and spiritual life — all under the dedicated leadership of our Vicar, Rev. Fr. Manu Poulose.

WOMEN LEAGUE(വനിതാ സമാജം)
Martha Mariam Samajam is the spiritual organization of the Church that unites all female members in faith and fellowship. The founders named it "Martha Mariam Samajam" in honor of the Holy and Ever-Virgin Saint Mary, the Mother of our Lord, whose intercession and example inspire the mission of this vibrant association.
The Samajam actively organizes spiritual retreats, supports the charitable initiatives of the Church, and promotes the spiritual growth of its members. During their gatherings, members participate in Bible readings, devotional songs, spiritual messages, discussions on general matters, and conclude with prayer and fellowship.

YOUTH ASSOCIATION
The Youth Association of the Church plays a vital role in nurturing the spiritual, moral, and social growth of members aged 17 and above. Its primary objective is to instill the principles of worship, scriptural study, and righteous living among the youth. By encouraging both individual and group participation in various activities, the association promotes the all-round development of personality and inspires a life of service to the Church and society.
The association is led by a Secretary, and meetings are held once every two months. These sessions include Bible readings, devotional songs, choir practice, spiritual talks, and a review of past activities. It provides a platform for young members to grow in faith, leadership, and fellowship.
